London - Marseilles - Arles
"Cruise Only" passengers fly from London to Marseilles to join Cezanne, berthed in the attractive town of Arles.
Sun 3 Sep
Arles - Avignon
This morning we explore Arles, visiting its famous amphitheatre which was built towards the end of the 1st century AD. The town also features in many of Van Gogh's paintings and during our walking tour we will view some familiar sights. In the afternoon we drive into the hilly area known as "Les Alpilles", where, according to legend, troubadours sang the praises of beautiful girls in the hope of receiving a kiss and a peacock feather. We visit the attractive village of Les Baux de Provence, or, you may choose instead to accompany our excursion to the amargue in search of its rich and varied wildlife. Enjoy the Welcome Party and dinner tonight as Cezanne sails towards Avignon.

Avignon - Chateauneuf du Pape
Avignon, "the City of Popes" welcomes us this morning, and we will explore some of its magnificent sights, including the Palace of the Popes, where seven Popes resided in the 14th century after Pope Clement V fled from Rome. After viewing the Benezet Bridge there will be some free time for you to explore this lively city, or to perhaps enjoy a coffee in one of its many cafes. After lunch we set sail for Chateauneuf du Pape - enjoy a peaceful afternoon relaxing on deck with a book, or perhaps attend one of the fascinating talks given by our Guest Speaker.

Chateauneuf du Pape - Viviers - Valence
From our berth outside Chateauneuf du Pape we travel to Orange to visit the Theatre Antique, with the only remaining stage wall in the world, and view the Triumphal Arch. In the afternoon we sail through the impressive Donzere Gorge and the Bollene Lock. We also stop at the small town of Viviers, which traditionally marks the boundary of the �Midi�, the South of France. This is an ideal spot for an independent walk before dinner. Sail early evening for Valence.

Valence - Vienne
After a morning sailing, Cezanne arrives at lunchtime in Vienne, once one of Roman Gaul's major cities, where we visit the site of Saint Romain en Gal and its impressively-displayed museum. Take some time to explore the town, with its narrow streets, cathedral and the well-preserved Temple of Augustus and Livia, which used to dominate the forum of the Roman town. In the early evening we sail towards Lyon, where we join the river Saone and continue our journey to Trevoux, the former capital of the principality of Dombes.

Trevoux - Macon
Avignon From our berth on the edge of the scenic town of Trevoux, we drive to the walled village of Perouges. Stroll through the cobbled streets of this hilltop settlement admiring its restored 15th and 16th century houses, before returning through the Dombes region, dotted with ponds and lakes. The afternoon will be spent sailing through the beautiful unspoilt landscape of the Saone river. We arrive in Macon, set on the edge of the Burgundy region, in the early evening, so why not take this ideal opportunity to dine ashore?

Macon - Lyon
Our excursion this morning will be to the ruins of Cluny Abbey, founded by the Benedictines in AD910. It became the most powerful abbey in Christendom and spawned 1,200 daughter-abbeys throughout Europe within 200 years. Our tour continues through the scenic countryside to a chateau where we taste some of the local wines. In the afternoon, relax on deck with a good book as Cezanne cruises towards Lyon.

Lyon - London
A morning in the fascinating city of Lyon, where we visit the Basilica and stroll through the narrow streets of Vieux Lyon as well as take in the beautiful panorama of this city where the Rhone and Saone rivers meet. We continue to Lyon airport for our return flight to London.
